Description

Guppy Grass (Najas guadalupensis), also known as common water nymph, is a fast-growing freshwater plant valued for its fine, bright green, grass-like leaves and soft, feathery texture that create a natural, bushy appearance in aquariums. Native to North, Central, and South America, it is highly hardy and adaptable, thriving in a wide range of water conditions, which makes it ideal for beginners as well as breeding setups. It can be floated or planted in the substrate and may grow up to 30–90 cm, forming dense vegetation that provides excellent shelter for fry, shrimp, and small fish while also absorbing excess nutrients to improve water quality and help control algae. Guppy Grass tolerates temperatures of around 20–28 °C and a broad pH range of approximately 6.0–8.0, and it propagates easily from stem fragments, allowing it to spread quickly with minimal effort. Thanks to its rapid growth and low maintenance requirements, it is an excellent choice for natural aquascapes, fry tanks, and low-tech planted aquariums.
